Children's Choirs The Chorister Choir and Rejoice Singers include children ages 3 - 11 years. Why Your Children Need to Study Sacred Music Children have led the church in worship through centuries. Only they can bring a distinctive blend of spontaneity, enthusiasm, and pure joy to the worship of God. The primary goal of the children's music ministry is to enable each child to worship God effectively through the combined efforts of Christian Education and the ministry of music. We encourage spiritual growth through the children's music ministry as they express their faith through the songs they sing. This process leads to public witness through participation in worship. The children's music ministry serves as an evangelistic outreach to the children themselves, as they memorize scripture through the songs they sing. Texts are carefully chosen, either based on scripture or reflecting scriptural truth, and often stay with children their entire lives, subtly molding and shaping their theology. These young singers also learn a great deal about the worship life of the church. They learn the liturgical calendar featuring special holiday seasons that focus on particular events in the life of Christ. They learn about the order of the service, and what it means to participate in worship as well as serve their church. In addition to spiritual and musical growth, the children's music ministry also offers an important opportunity for social growth. As they gain a sense of accomplishment from taking on a team task and seeing it through to success, they grow in poise and self confidence, and learn the responsibility of working together in a group. Martin Luther referred to music as "a fair and glorious gift of God". We eagerly share this gift with our children.
