Nunsense May 4, 5, 11*, 12, 13*, 18, 19 & 20, 2007 *Interpreted performances Convent cook, Sister Julia (Child of God) accidentally feeds her order tainted vichyssoise resulting in mass (pardon the pun) casualties. Not having enough money to bury all their dearly departed, the "left overs" are stored in the walk-in refrigerator until the rest of the money can be raised. Unfortunately, the bodies can't stay there long as a Health Department inspection is about to occur. What to do? what to do? Put on a show! And that's exactly was the Little Sisters of Hoboken do. Winner of four Outer Critics Circle Awards including Best Off Broadway Musical in its original New York production, this hilarious international hit was revived in New York with a male cast and retitiled Nunsense A Men! It has also spawned another sequel - Meshuganuns! - which is set on a cruise ship filled with predominately Jewish travelers. It would be a sin to miss this show. |

THE MUSICAL OF MUSICALS
March 9-24, 2007
The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) March 9, 10, 16, 17, 18, 23 & 24, 2007 Winner of 2005 Audience Choice Selection Arizona Premier
Music by Eric Rockwell, Lyrics by Joanne Bogart and Book by Eric Rockwell and Joanne Bogart Fresh from its long New York run, Central Community Theatre is pleased to present the Arizona premier of The Musical of Musicals (The Musical!) What's the show about? MUSICALS, of course! In this hilarious satire of musical theatre, one story becomes five delightful musicals, each written in the distinctive style of a different master of the form, from Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim. The basic plot: June is an ingénue who can't pay the rent and is threatened by her evil landlord. Will the handsome leading man come to the rescue? The variations are: a Rodgers & Hammerstein version, set in Kansas in August, complete with a dream ballet; a Sondheim version, featuring the landlord as a tortured artistic genius who slashes the throats of his tenants in revenge for not appreciating his work; a Jerry Herman version set as a splashy star vehicle; an Andrew Lloyd Webber version, performed as a rock musical with themes borrowed from Puccini; and a Kander & Ebb version, set in a Chicago speakeasy. This show is an uproarious comic valentine to musical theatre you won't want to miss!

Ongoing Programs
Apprentice The Theatre Arts Task Force of Central United Methodist Church is dedicated to providing education opportunities for all its participants. The Apprentice Program is designed for High School Students who wish to explore the world of stagecraft and directing. Students are paired with experienced Theatre Professionals who gladly share their craft with young eager assistants who provide support throughout the entire production.
Mentoring The Theatre Arts Task Force also provides opportunity for Adults with limited experience to expand their opportunities in stagecraft and direction. The team of professional, apprentice and assistants work together providing excellent leadership to those on stage and in the crews. We encourage members of the community to become a part of the theatre ensembles. Historically, the productions of The Theatre Arts Task Force bring many newcomers to our faith community, both as ensemble participants and as audience. In many cases they stay to continue in other theatre arts programs, music programs, children's ministries or general church activities.
Genre Our Season offerings include works for Readers Theatre, Variety Shows, Comedies, Dramas and Broadway Musicals. Opportunities are available for actors, singers, dancers, stage technicians, and production personnel. Watch for audition announcements in the local media, on the internet, at this web-site, and in The Chimes, the biweekly newsletter of Central United Methodist Church.
